By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 10: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has urged the All-Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) to unite and contest the upcoming free students’ union elections independently, without external support, and achieve victory.
Addressing a national workshop organised by ANNFSU on Thursday at the UML central office, Chyasal in the context of the upcoming elections, Chairman Oli presented the example of established and successful athletes who win medals by running independently rather than relying on others’ support.
He extended his best wishes, urging the students to move forward confidently and achieve resounding success.
Highlighting the glorious student movement alongside Nepal’s political movement, he mentioned that Gangalal gave a speech on human rights before the establishment of democracy and UML has been the heir of that rebellion. He stated that his party was the heir to the awareness and rebellion that began during that time.
Chairman Oli stated that the groups joining the UML in unity have strengthened it as a national power, advancing towards becoming a decisive force.
He remarked that those who underestimated UML have been proven wrong, as the party demonstrated itself as the foremost force in public opinion.
He said, “Those who question where UML is will find it out when we emerge victorious in the competition.”
He further added, “The university sector is not a place for popularity through fists or armed struggles. It is a sector to advance peacefully by doing good work.
However, if anyone wields fists, we will not remain silent. I urge my friends to aggressively engage in good work.”
During the event, Prime Minister Oli also launched a book associated with the student festival.
Speaking at the programme, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said that ANNFSU is the first choice for students, who are the future pillars of the nation.
Former ANNFSU Chairperson and Chief Minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Kumar Karki, UML people’s organisation coordinator Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, ANNFSU Chairperson Sameek Badal, and other leaders were also present at the event.
The free students’ union elections are scheduled to be held in universities on February 27.
