Birgunj (Parsa), Dec 24: The import
of four-wheel drive vehicles through the Birgunj customs check point has
decreased in the first five months of the current fiscal year starting July
16.
The Birgunj Customs Office said
that 482 jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 920 million 336 thousand have been
imported via the customs checkpoint in the five months of the current fiscal
year.
Vehicle import has fallen by 38.13
per cent in terms of numbers and by 16.43 per cent in terms of revenue in the
first five months of the current fiscal as compared to the corresponding period
of the last fiscal.
Seven hundred and seventy-nine
jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1 billion 201 million 400 thousand were imported
in the first five months of the last fiscal year, the Office said.
The Office collected revenue of Rs
2 billion 809 million 100 thousand from the import of the vehicles.
Not only the import of petrol
fueled vehicles as jeeps, cars and vans has decreased through Birgunj customs
point, the import of electric-powered four-wheel vehicles has also fallen, the
data shared by the Customs Office stated.
Ninety-seven electric jeeps, cars
and vans worth Rs 14 million 786 thousand were imported through this customs
point in the first five months of the current fiscal year.
Import of electric vehicles through
this customs check point has reduced by 59.07 per cent in terms of numbers and
by 58.63 per cent in terms of revenue collection in the first five months of
the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of the last
fiscal year.
Two hundred and thirty-seven
electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 465 million 853 thousand were imported
in the corresponding period last fiscal year. The Office had collected revenue
worth Rs 203 million 558 thousand from the import of this many electric
vehicles during that period. (RSS)
