Tragic statistics: Ten thousand Nepalis working abroad die in a decade

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 17: Slightly over 10 thousand Nepalis working abroad have died in a period of a decade.

According to the Foreign Employment Board report, in the duration from 2071/72 BS to 2080/81 BS , 10,274 Nepali lost their lives while working in foreign countries.   

A press conference today organized by General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT) in the International Foreign Labor Day unveiled the data. 

The factsheet unveiled that 1492 Nepali workers lost in this fiscal year (FY) alone and 578 have been physically impaired. 

GEFONT Chair Binod Shrestha said it has been committed to raise voice for fair share of wage, free from any form of exploitation, work with dignity, social security and respect.  

Chair Shrestha said that manpower companies are taking unauthorized amount for employment opportunity in Europe and concerned agencies should take focus on incidence of leaving workers in the middle of the way before reaching the specified destination.
