NEPSE witnesses landslide, index drops to below 2,700 points

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 9: The benchmark of the share market index posted a double-digit fall on Sunday, the first trading day of the week.

The NEPSE dropped by 45.93 (1.67 per cent) points and closed at 2,689 points on Sunday. 

The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies also decreased by 6.96 points (1.5 per cent) to close at 457.04 points.

According to NEPSE, the sub-indices of all groups decreased sharply in today’s transactions.

Sub-index of the life insurance group posted the highest fall of 423.04 points (3.07 per cent) followed by hotels and tourism and non-life insurance group whose indices decreased by 126.11 points (1.84 per cent) and 109.11 points (0.83 per cent) respectively.

Similarly, the sub-index of the trading group dropped by 108.37 points (2.13 per cent), microfinance by 76.18 points (1.50 per cent) and hydropower by 71.68 points (1.98 per cent).

The sub-index of the finance group decreased by 61.97 points, the development bank by 61.01 points, banking by 26.82 points and the manufacturing and processing group by 23.21 points.

The sub-index of hotels and tourism dropped by 16.49 points, investment by 1.39 points and mutual funds by 0.12 points.

A total of 17,392,244 shares worth Rs. 7.46 billion from 321 companies were bought and sold in 81,404 transactions on Sunday.

The share price of 248 companies decreased while the share price of 55 companies increased in today’s transactions.

On this day, share prices of Manushi Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha, Life Insurance Corporation (Nepal) and Joshi Hydropower Development Company decreased by 10 per cent each.

Similarly, the share price of Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha decreased by 9.97 per cent, 

Dibyashwori Hydropower by 7.09 per cent and Super Madi Hydropower by 6.88 per cent.

However, the share price of Khanikhola Hydropower Company increased by 9.98 per cent, Dolti Power Company by 8.77 per cent and KBL Debenture by 8.14 per cent.
