BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Dec. 6: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes to all Nepali brothers and sisters on the occasion Vivah Panchami, celebrated in remembrance of the auspicious day when Ram and Janaki were married in the Treta Yuga.
On his message, the President said, “May the ancient cultural festival of Vivah Panchami inspire us all to strengthen national unity amidst the country’s social and cultural diversity and guide us toward the preservation and promotion of our unique culture. Additionally, it will encourage all Nepalis to work toward building a civilised and cultured society.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav also extended his best wishes to all Nepalis living in the country and abroad on the occasion of Vivah Panchami.
The Vice President said that the occasion would inspire us to adopt moral values in our family and social lives, drawing inspiration from the lives of Lord Ram and Princess Sita. He said that the folk dances, music, song performances, traditional processions and cultural parades held on this occasion help to keep our unique culture alive, also strengthening the bond of unity among various communities.
Additionally, the message read that the auspicious occasion would bring joy, happiness, peace and prosperity into everyone's life.
The wedding ceremony held in Janakpurdham, the sacred religious and cultural site that was the capital of ancient Mithila, is considered the main attraction of the Vivah Panchami festival, celebrated throughout the week.
On this day, the wedding celebrations are marked by processions with musical performances, floats and dances and there is a tradition of witnessing the bridal procession and the palanquins.
