Photo exhibition on Nepal-ADB partnership kicks off

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 4: A photo exhibition titled ‘Five Decades of ADB-Nepal Partnership’ began at the Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal, Kathmandu, on Tuesday 

The exhibition is organised by Photojournalists Club Nepal in coordination with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and will continue till December 9.  

The week-long photo exhibition is organised to celebrate 50 years of partnership between the Government of Nepal and the ADB in the energy sector development in Nepal.

 The event was officially inaugurated by state Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Purna Bahadur Tamang, Suresh Acharya, Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Energy,  Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Amaud Cauchois, the Country Director of ADB Nepal Resident Mission, and Kristine Hauge Storholt, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nepal. 

The main motive of the exhibition is to provide a direct experience through visuals of the work done in the energy sector during the five decades of partnership between the  Government of Nepal and ADB. 

Speaking at the event, Minister Khadka thanked the ADB for their support in Nepal’s energy sector, “Many positive works have been carried out in this sector recently. We are grateful for the work the bank has done to improve the energy sector of our country.” 

Likewise, Country Director Cauchois spoke at length about the bank’s partnership with the Nepal Government to enhance electricity generation, transmission, distribution, energy sufficiency and export potential.  

Managing Director of NEA, Ghising, emphasised the importance of the support provided by the bank, especially in large-scale hydropower projects and alternative renewable energy initiatives. He thanked the bank and hoped the partnership would extend and become stronger. 

The exhibition is divided into four sections-- Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Beyond the meter.
