BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Dec. 3: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended best wishes for the happiness, peace, prosperity and good health of all the sisters and brothers with disabilities, both in Nepal and abroad, on the occasion of the 33rd International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In his message, the President emphasised the importance of identifying persons with disabilities who lack access to education, health and employment and ensuring their equal access to state-provided facilities and opportunities. He also highlighted the need to create accessible physical infrastructure in offices, schools, public transport, roads, parks, temples and other public and private spaces.
President Paudel also expressed his hope that the day would inspire and energise all individuals with disabilities, national and international organisations active in this field, the Government of Nepal, guardian groups and civil society to continue working for the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been celebrated every year on December 3rd since 1992, initiated by the United Nations, to promote the rights and dignity of citizens with disabilities around the world.
This year, in Nepal, the day is being observed with various programmes with the national slogan, ‘The foundation of an inclusive and sustainable future is the strong leadership of persons with disabilities.’ Likewise, in a separate message issued on the occasion, Vice President Ram Sahya Prasad Yadav urged one and all to work unitedly to improve the living standards of people with disabilities, to safeguard their rights and ensure inclusiveness in all sectors.
