Conservation of snow leopard requires investment: Minister Shahi

Kathmandu, Nov 28: Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has emphasized the need for increasing investment in conservation of snow leopard.     

Minister Shahi said it during a conference organized here in a bid to promote the conservation of snow leopard and its study and research. Since the snow leopard is gradually becoming rare, more investment is imperative.     

He argued intensive research on snow leopard habitat and conservation strategies was equally important. According to him, participation of local communities in conservation could be sustainable measure to protect the snow leopard.     

"The federal government concluded that local partnership matters much for the conservation of wild animals including the snow leopard. We have made an action plan to work together with the community," Minister Shahi shared.     

The government has recently released the snow leopard conservation action plan 2024-2030. The action plan includes activities to be implemented for the protection of the endangered species, future strategy, tactics and capacity building, and habitat improvement, among others. (RSS)
