By Our Correspondent,Urlabari, Nov. 20: Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, a member of the House of Representatives elected from Morang-3, has arranged free treatment for critically ill Susan Rai, 19, of Belbari-3.

Rai, who was unable to afford treatment for her kidney disease, was admitted to Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) by Rikta Bahadur Gurung, Nepali Congress president of Belbari-3.

After Dr. Sharma met Susan at KMC, the hospital carried out her treatment free of charge.

During his electoral campaign, Dr. Sharma had pledged to ensure no patient in his constituency would be devoid of treatment due to financial constraints.

Honoring this commitment, he has provided a 50-bed cabin free of charge at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar, with a 50 per cent discount in the treatment of voters of Morang-3 and free treatment for low-income families. Additionally, 30 free beds, including food and accommodation, have been allocated for patients of Morang-3 and 15 beds at Kathmandu Medical College have been reserved for free treatment for residents of the constituency.

Dr. Sharma clarified that while he represents the Nepali Congress, free treatment is available to all residents of Morang-3 regardless of political affiliation, provided they can prove their residency.

He emphasised that free healthcare was one of the most important responsibilities of a people’s representative alongside development and construction initiatives.
