By Chitra Mijar,Sindhupalchok, Nov. 19: Incessant rainfall on September 27 and 28 swept away three houses and placed 12 others at high risk of landslide in Kune village of Jugal Rural Municipality-1

Despite this, the government has not relocated the affected families to safer locations, forcing them to continue living in hazardous conditions.

Although the 12 remaining houses in Kune village are at high risk, the affected families are unable to move to safer places.

Chandra Bahadur Bisunkhe, one of the victims, sharing his plight stated that the landslide completely swept away three neighbouring houses. "My and Bikash Rokaya’s houses are still in immediate danger," he said. The government has not initiated any resettlement efforts, he added.

The situation is not limited to Chandra and Bikash. Twelve houses belonging to Dalit families near the landslide site are also at risk of being washed away at any moment.

Cracks have appeared in the yards of the houses, which were built on steep terrain. Experts warn that even minor rainfall could destroy these homes.

Although the victims continue to live in these cracked houses during the dry season, the houses are sure to collapse during the monsoon. These 12 houses accommodate over 40 people, all of whom live in constant fear.

According to Bikash Rokaya the victims want to relocate to a safer place but are left with no choice but to live in these dangerous conditions as no alternative safe area has been allocated.

He expressed frustration at the negligence of local, provincial and federal governments, as well as relevant agencies.

A landslide swept away Chitra Bahadur Mijar and Ajay Bisunkhe's house.

Chitra Bahadur, Thulikanchi Mijar, Avinash Nepali, and five-year-old Abiral Nepali were swept away along with their houses. While the bodies of Chitra Bahadur and Abinash have been recovered, Thulikanchi and Abiral remain missing, according to District Police Chief Santosh Khadka.

The rainfall of September 27 and 28 claimed the lives of 10 individuals in Sindhupalchok, with two still missing.

Landslides in Kune village of Jugal Rural Municipality, Lisankhu Pakhar Rural Municipality-3 and Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-4 swept away homes and their residents.
