By Rajan Rawat,Humla, Nov. 18: Seven candidates have submitted their nominations with enthusiasm and excitement for the upcoming by-election to the post of Vice Chairperson in Sarkegad Rural Municipality in the district.
Five of them are party candidates and two are independent candidates. The by-elections in a few local levels across the country are scheduled for December 1.
Chief Election Officer Shambhu Prasad Baral informed that seven individuals submitted nominations for the position. The nomination process was conducted according to the agreement reached in a meeting of all political parties held two days before the nomination day. The major political parties in the district followed the procedure for nomination as per the consensus reached.
The Nepali Congress party was the first to submit their candidate's nomination at the Chief Election Officer's office on Sunday. Sabita Budha from the Nepali Congress has filed her nomination for the position.
Earlier, the Nepali Congress organised a rally from the central office of Sarkegad Rural Municipality at Milan Chowk, with music and fanfare and reached the Chief Election Officer's office to file the nomination. The nomination was led by party President Mohan Bikram Singh, former party President Jayapati Rokaya and Constituent Assembly member Rita Shahi.
Similarly, the CPN-UML also submitted their nomination. The party picked Jana Shahi as its candidate just a day before the nomination process. The nomination was filed under the leadership of the CPN-UML central members Chhaka Bahadur Lama, Dal Bahadur Rawal and Dal Bahadur Phadera.
Before this, the party had organised a rally from Srijana Chowk and reached the Chief Election Officer’s office to submit their candidate’s nomination.
Debaki Timilsina was the third candidate from the CPN (Maoist Centre) to file her nomination. She is the wife of Dr. Dipendra Rokaya, the coordinator of CPN (Maoist Centre) in Humla. The party selected its candidate only on Sunday morning.
A rally was held from Pulchowk, led by Maoist central members Bijay Bhandari, Sita Shahi and Chimidorje Lama, which passed through Sarkegad Bazaar and arrived at the Chief Election Officer’s office to file the nomination.
The Maoist Centre's candidate is supported by the Socialist Front, which includes the CPN (Unified Socialist), Biplav-led party and the CPN (Maoist Centre). Both Timilsina from the Maoist Centre and Budha from the Nepali Congress are from the same village.
Additionally, Sangita Shahi filed her nomination from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, with the party’s central member Kali Bahadur Shahi and district president Bikash Mahat leading the submission process.
Bachchu Budha from the Rastriya Swatantra Party filed the nomination.
Likewise, Ramsara Khadka Saud and Naresh Sahi filed their nominations as independent candidates.
