Local by-elections will be held in fair manner: Minister Lekhak

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 16: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has said that the government is committed to conducting the local by-elections scheduled for December 1 in a fair and free manner. 

Minister Lekhak made this remark while addressing a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives at Singha Durbar on Friday.  

Minister Lekhak said that all security agencies have been instructed to ensure the by-elections are conducted impartially and without any interference. 

He also noted that the meetings of security agencies focused on the elections had been held and necessary decisions were made to provide adequate peace and security for the elections. 

The government is prepared to assist the Election Commission in every way necessary, he said.  

He further said that the government, in coordination with the Election Commission, would arrange all required security measures.  

He said, “The by-election process has commenced. On behalf of the government and myself, I want to assure you that the by-elections will be conducted impartially and freely. All necessary security arrangements are being made. I have already held a meeting of the Central Security Committee focused on the by-elections.”  

Home Minister Lekhak reiterated that the government was dedicated to providing all necessary support to ensure the smooth holding of the elections.
