Kathmandu, Nov 11: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, has said the Nepali society should take inspiration from Sankhadhar Sakhwa, the national luminary and the founder of Nepal Sambat.

In his address to a programme organised today by the Nepal Sambat Nhuda National Celebration Committee on the occasion of the Shankhadhar Sakhwa Day, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Sakhwa's remarkable contributions to Nepali society, particularly his role as a social reformer. Sakhwa's efforts to free indebted Nepali citizens and promote social justice are inspiring, he said.

In addition to his social impact, Sakhwa's contributions to Nepali religion and culture remain equally significant, the leader added.

The then government led by NC leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in 2056 BS officially recognized Sakhwa as a national luminary, the Deputy Prime Minister recalled.

Furthermore, in 2065 BS, Nepal Sambat was declared as the National Calendar. (RSS)
