Kathmandu, Nov 9: The 110th birth anniversary of Nepali Congress leader Ganeshman Singh is being celebrated today by organizing a variety of programs. He is popularly known as the supreme commander of the people's movement that restored democracy in the country in 1990.
Singh started politics in 1997 BS and succeeded in establishing himself as a popular leader in 2046 BS. After embarking on a campaign to end the monarchy, he was jailed several times by the then government. He was also active in the then Anti-Rana Movement.
As one of the leaders of the 2007 BS revolution for the establishment of democracy, he devoted himself to the restoration of democracy in the country, Singh remained a follower and biggest supporter of BP Koirala.
He served as a senior minister in the government formed after the first election in 2015. After being released from Sundarijal Jail along with BP Koirala in 2025 BS, he expanded political organization remaining in exile in India. In the year 2033, he returned to the country with the policy of national unity and reconciliation along with BP Koirala and remained active against the then panchayat system.
After the death of BP, Ganeshman as the supreme leader of the Congress led the Satyagraha movement of 2042. Ganeshman Singh announced the movement against the Panchayat along with the communist parties for the people's movement. He became the supreme commander of the movement.
On the occasion of Ganeshman Jayanti, Nepali Congress and its fraternal and well-wisher organizations are scheduled to host various programs to remember the late leader and his contributions today.
Ganeshman Singh Foundation will hold a program at Shantibatika in Ratnapark. (RSS)
