By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct 23: Lumba Prasad Subedi, who hails from Bankimairi in Ramechhap district, has brought out Khaijadi Bhajan, a collection of folk psalms, other day. The book was made public on the occasion of the first death anniversary of his spouse Dambar Kumari Subedi at Katunje, Bhaktapur.
The anthology presents the gist of Bhagavad Gita, the holy text of Hindus, in folk lyrics so that the devotees can danced to their tune. It taken each stanza from one to 335 chapters of Bhagavad Geeta. Khaijadi is a traditional musical instrument that has been amply mentioned in Ramayan and Mahabharat, both are famous Hindu epics.
"Khaijadi Bhajan is one of major genres of folk literature. It is expressed through the language of common people, reflecting the character, spirit and impact of folk life," said Subedi, who is interested in spiritual literature and culture.
He said that Khaijadi Bhajan had been one of important components of Hindu culture since the Vedic era, as Aryans spread and practiced it wherever they migrated. "I want preserve our traditional folk lyrical music and dance by publishing this anthology." With 156 pages, the anthology's price is Rs 500.
