Disaster relief materials handed over

By Raju Lamichhane,Rukum West, Oct.1: The Nepal Red Cross Society, Rukum West branch, has handed over the relief materials to the district and local emergency operation centres and the ward disaster management committees for disaster response.

According to Saroj Thapa, the district programme coordinator of the Nepal Red Cross Society, relief materials were handed over to the ward disaster management committees in Sani Bheri Rural Municipality - 4, and Triveni Rural Municipality - 9 and 10, along with the local emergency operation centres and the district administration office.

The Red Cross has stated that approximately Rs. 500,000 worth of supplies have been provided for urgent needs. Thapa informed that the materials were provided under the Karnali Earthquake Recovery Programme for disaster management. A team of Red Cross officials and staff visited the respective ward offices, rural municipalities and district administration offices to carry out the handover. 

Rama Gautam, Chairman of the Rukum West Red Cross, said that 27 types of different materials believed to be essential for post-disaster response have been made available. He believed that the relief materials would help in easing difficulties during the disaster time.

During the event, Acting Chief District Officer Binod Regmi said that these relief materials would significantly ease post-disaster response efforts.

Regmi said that while there is a continuous shortage of necessary relief materials for disaster response, the management of materials has been coordinated at the district, local and ward levels.
