'Tourism role spectacular in cultural exchanges and sustainable development'

Kathmandu, Sept 20: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey said the development of tourism sector would play spectacular role in promoting cultural exchanges and sustainable development.     

At a closing ceremony of the 8th edition of the South Asian Travel Award here today, he said such programme would help keep the country's economy circular and preserve culture.     

"Tourism sector does not only play an important role in the country's economy but also in cultural exchange and sustainable development," he said.     

Chairperson of South Asian Travel Awards Abdul Latif said that the award has recognized South Asia's best hospitality and travel industry since 2016. As many as 400 hotels and travels from South Asia were nominated for the eighth edition. Nepal has won 21 awards. Nepal has won four gold and 17 bronze awards.     

Nepal has also won the award for best cultural destination. On the occasion, 'SATA Face of South Asian Tourism Award' was presented to the late Ambika Shrestha of Dwarka Hotel and tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya. Previous editions of SATA were hosted in Mount Lavinia, Addu City, Mumbai, Galle City, Male Atoll, and Bengaluru. Every year, award ceremonies and gala dinners are attended by some of the industry's most prominent personalities.(RSS)
