'Collaboration with private sector a must for minimizing climate change effects'

Kathmandu, Sept 16: Minister of State for Forest and Environment Rupa BK laid emphasis on government-private sector collaboration for minimizing negative effects of climate change in the country.     

She said this at a daylong workshop 'Eye Care innovation Fund', organized by the World Bank and Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) here today.     

The workshop had created an opportunity to discuss on the utilization of digital technology and adoption of new techniques for the prevention of climate change.     

On the occasion, State Minister BK claimed the marginalized and underserved communities have suffered the most from the negative effects of climate change.     

She said the local governments should be more accountable to protect women, children, elderly and indigenous communities from the effects of climate change. The Minster expressed readiness of the Ministry to work on climate change in partnership with all sectors and levels,     

Climate expert Dr Bimal Raj Regmi said Nepal is vulnerable to climate change and the government should work sensitively along with the private sector.     

Vice-Chancellor of Sudurpaschim University Prof Dr Hemraj Panta stressed the need to minimize the impact of disasters by using technology.
