By Our Correspondent,Syangja, Sept. 15: The Social Development Office of Syangja has recently shown a keen interest in the conservation and promotion of traditional folk Panchebaja music. To mark the 60th National Children's Day, the office organised a competition aimed at preserving cultural heritage, passing down traditional skills and connecting children with income-generating opportunities.
The competition featured 12 local groups. The event was particularly enhanced by young participants performing with the traditional Panchebaja in their school uniforms. The children not only demonstrated their understanding of child rights but also showcased their commitment to preserving traditional cultural practices and heritage.
Janata Secondary School from Kaligandaki Rural Municipality secured first place. Janhit Secondary School from Andhikhola Rural Municipality secured second place and Tri-Shaheed Namuna Secondary School stood third.
Jeevan Paudel, the head of the Social Development Office, announced that certificates and cash prizes of six thousand, five thousand and four thousand rupees were awarded to the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.
Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal voiced support for such initiatives, noting their importance in promoting and protecting traditional arts like the Panchebaja. She also suggested continuing such cultural activities and preserving historical art forms.
Saraswati Mabima, an 11-year-old student from class 5, shared that participating in the competition and learning from her father at home was a valuable experience that deepened her appreciation for cultural traditions.
