Govt recommends Chitra Lekha Yadav as envoy to Australia

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 11: The government has recommended former Deputy Speaker and Nepali Congress leader Chitra Lekha Yadav for her appointment as  Nepal’s Ambassador to Australia. 

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the official residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Baluwatar on Monday evening took the decision, according to Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung. 

Speaking at a press conference organised to make the Cabinet decisions public at the Ministry on Tuesday, Minister Gurung said that the government has recommended Yadav’s name as an envoy to Australia for one term of four years. 

The Cabinet meeting also appointed Yadav as non-residing ambassador to several countries like the Republic of Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Palau, Nauru, Marshall Islands and Tonga, according to Minister Gurung.

Similarly, the government has approved the Organisation and Management (O&M) Survey of the Ministry of Finance and its subordinate offices. 

Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, said the meeting also approved the Land Use (Second Amendment) Regulations-2081, as proposed by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation.

Similarly, for the fiscal year 2081-82 B.S., a proposal of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to fulfil 15 temporary gazetted positions in the National Youth Council and four in the Phapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Infrastructure Development Committee was approved.

The meeting also approved the national report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and decided to submit it to the UN CRPD Committee.

The government has allowed the National Salt Trading Company Limited and Food Management and Trading Company to import a total of 30 metric tonnes of sugar (15 metric tonnes to each company) in a 50 per cent exemption of customs duty.
