'Govt should demonstrate by action, not by speech'

Kathmandu, Sept 3: Parliamentarians have called on the government to shift its focus from government formation to actions and replace rhetoric with deeds.

During special hour of the House of Representatives today, Dr Chandrakant Bhandari of Nepali Congress (NC) argued that the development should reflect the people's aspiration for prosperity and convenience besides exercising the rule of economics. 

Expressing his frustration over the stagnation of development works due to lack of understanding about rules of economics, Dr Bhandari reiterated that the government should shift its focus from formation of government to national development. 

He emphasized that the government should work towards preventing brain drain among Nepali youths according it high priority. He drew the attention of the government towards the general public bearing the brunt due to delays in development of infrastructures including road construction. 

Pressing for accountability in tax collection for every government agencies, he questioned whether the government had collected the due taxes from telecommunication service provider, Ncell. Furthermore, he demanded the ruling from the House Speaker on the Ncell capital gain tax scam. 

On a different note, he commended the spirit of Nepali women observing Teej festival irrespective of poverty and deprivation and expressed that many Nepalis were longing to see famed singer Bishnu Majhi in public.

Similarly, CPN (UML)'s Ishwor Bahadur Rijal viewed that the House should champion the values of equality, freedom and fairness. He saw the need for studying and analyzing whether democracy in Nepal was pro-public and proportional development was taking place. 

"People's representatives should deliver in the interest of the public," he observed, denouncing the tendency of indulging in politics for the sake of serving personal or partisan interest which, he claimed, had led to state of disorder in the country.

Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Amanlal Modi viewed that none should jeopardize the peace process in Nepal, since, he noted that the movements and revolutions waged by his party was for the greater good of Madheshi, Dalit, women and indigenous communities.

He added that the people's war was for democracy and equality.

Rastriya Swatantra Party's Sobita Gautam highlighted the glaring challenges facing the expecting mothers in Nepal due to sub-standard qualities of medicines imported to Nepal. 

Rastriya Prajatantra Party's Rajendra Lingden rued that government could not pay attention to the rising inflation in Nepal and questioned the reluctance of traders to pay taxes.

CPN (Unified Socialist)'s Sher Bahadur Kunwar demanded measures to curb black marketeering of the daily consumables and to control inflation.

Janamat Party's Abdul Khan underscored skill-based training for the Awadhi-speaking community to improve their health, education and economic conditions.

Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal's Ram Prakash Chaudhary pressed for development of the sports sector so that the athletes could earn their living through the medium of sports.

Nepal Workers and Peasants Party's Prem Suwal said that it would be good if the Nepali Foreign Minister had raised issues about problems faced by Nepalis living in bordering area as well as about the issues relating to Nepali territory during her recent official visit to India. (RSS)
