Government takes measures to combat gender-based violence

Kathmandu, Sept 3: Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has programmes aiming to combat gender-based violence, promote social welfare and protect the rights of senior citizens which are being implemented effectively.     

Taking part in a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) today, he said the government's attention has been drawn to reports about violence that women are being subjugated while in foreign employment.     

He said that the government has taken measures to control the violence against women.     

 According to the Minister, the Ministry is working to build shelter homes for the rehabilitation of survivors of women's violence with dignity. The project to construct such a facility has been launched in the Madhes Province and the tender will be soon announced for the Bagamati Province, he added.     

He said an investigation is in progress regarding a case of menstrual discrimination in Achham, promising action against the responsible.     

He also said the government continues efforts to promote the interests of and services for women, children, and senior citizens.(RSS)
