Bharat falters in Paris Paralympics

Kathmandu, Aug 29: Bharat Singh Mahat was defeated today in the K-44 category of taekwondo U-58 kg under Paris Paralympics-2024.     

In the Round of 16 match held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France, Bharat lost to Japan's Mitsuya Tanaka by 19-3 points. Tanaka is ranked fifth in the world while Bharat is ranked 57th in the world ranking list.     

Meanwhile, medal hopeful Palesha Gobardhan will be competing tomorrow in the women's U-57 kg weight group under the same K-44 category.     

Along with Bharat and Palesha, three athletes from Nepal are participating in the Paralympics. Swimmer Bhim Bahadur Kumal is competing in men's 50m freestyle of S9 category. Bharat and Bhim were selected for the Paralympics through wild card entry while Palesha booked a ticket to Paris after successfully qualifying through the selection stage.(RSS)
