Tanahun authors raise concern over misrepresentation of Teej

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Tanahun, Aug. 25: Authors from Tanahun have expressed concern over the misrepresentation of the Teej festival. 

Gaukumari Neupane, Chairman of the Gandaki Bangmaya Pratisthan Tanahun said that using inappropriate words and making inappropriate videos that distort Teej songs should be avoided, as losing the originality of the Teej festival could affect the country's identity.

During the 42nd series of poetry recitation programme on Saturday, the participants urged everyone to preserve the originality of the Teej festival through songs.

On the occasion, Bishnu Khadka Chhetri, a member of the organisation, said that the cultural aspects and originality of Teej should be preserved.  

Author Samundra Godar said that offensive Teej songs and videos that could harm the cultural values of the festival should be banned by the government.

Authors Dr. Laxmikant Chapagain, Shree Ram Karki Achuk, Sangam Sapkota, Bishnumaya Bhandari, Baburam Sapkota, Tej Prasad Lamichhane and Madhav Adhikari among others, criticised the factors that have distorted Teej festival.
