Karnali Highway obstructed after incessant rainfall

Jumla, Aug 21: The Karnali Highway has been obstructed due to incessant rain. Information officer at the Road Division Office, Jumla, Bir Bahadur JT, said that the highway has been completely blocked since Wednesday morning due to landslides at Smode and Hulma in Kalikot district due to incessant rainfall along the Jumla road section last night.

Work is underway to open the roads blocked due to floods and landslides in the area.    

The Information Officer said that work is underway to bring the road into operation as soon as possible. Landslides have occurred frequently at Dahikhola, Gagnekhola, Esmod and Hulm of Kalikot section of the Karnali Highway. 

  
The common people of Karnali have been suffering for years due to lack of attention of the authorities related to the upgradation of roads in these risky places.    

Hundreds of passengers have been stranded as vehicles going from Jumla, Mugu to Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu have remained unmoved due to the closure of the road.  (RSS)
