Family bench to be launched in Banke Court from July 31

By Rakesh Mishra, Khajura, July 20: The Banke District Court is going to start a family bench from coming July 31 in a bid to deliver justice on the cases concerning children and women in a speedy manner. 

The bench, which will be established within the District Court as a separate facility, will prioritize swift justice delivery over matters concerning women's claim on property, domestic violence and children, said Judge of the District Court Banke, Bhisma Raj Prasai.

The facility is already established in the district courts of Kathmandu, Morang, Kaski, Dhanusha and Rupandehi districts. Preparations are expedited to establish similar bench in Banke district which aims to settle long pending cases speedily, thereby reducing such cases to nil.

Judge Prasai shared that 74 cases lodged at the Court within last two years remain to be settled as of the end of last fiscal year, 2023/24. 

The District Court in Banke has taken forward justice delivery process by classifying cases into three categories- simple, general, special- as per the court policy, explained Judge Prasai.

The judicial body got 1,255 simple cases, 1,753 general and 424 special ones carried over from the last fiscal year to the current 2024/25, according to the District Court, Banke.

It settled altogether 4,215 cases in the last fiscal year as well as in the first week of the current fiscal year which accounts for 82.95 per cent of the target, it was told.

There are currently 3,432 pending cases as of mid-July this year, according to Judge Prasai.

Date thru automated cause-list management system

Moreover, the District Court implemented the automated cause-list management system with the beginning of the current fiscal year, 2024/25, it was shared in a press meet recently. 

Judge Prasai, unveiling the annual report of the Court, shared that cases related to narcotic drugs were highest in the Court followed by cases related to rape, murder, road accident, financial fraud, divorce and property partitioning among others.

However, it recorded dismal success in the cases sent for reconciliation. Of the 5,984 cases sent for reconciliation in the last fiscal year, only 179 were reconciled, it was informed.
