Monsoon rains leave two families homeless

By Sher Bahadur Karki,Bajura, July 7: Continuous rains in Bajura have rendered two families homeless after their houses collapsed.

The continuous downpour has led to the collapse of houses, leaving families in distress.

In Chhatara, Triveni Municipality-2, two houses belonging to the Dalit community have been destroyed.

The residents are now deeply worried about where they will live.

Raju Mijar, a resident of Triveni Municipality-2, expressed his worries over the situation.

“Our house, which survived the winter earthquake, was completely destroyed during the monsoon. Now, we are worried about a shelter,” he said.

Mijar explained that during winter, they could manage by lighting a fire anywhere, but with the monsoon rains, finding a dry place to live has become a critical challenge.

“During the day, we are busy planting paddy. After a hard day of work, we want to sleep well, but our house is in ruins. We don’t know how we will survive,” added Padam Mijar, another resident.

Houses that had cracked during the winter earthquakes have started to collapse with even the slightest rain this monsoon.

“Every year, either due to earthquakes or floods, the locals endure such hardships,” said Padam Mijar.

Following the destruction of houses by the incessant rains, the ward office has initiated efforts to record the details of the damage with the help of the police.

Last year, many families displaced by the earthquake had to rebuild their houses and resettle in safer areas.

However, the ongoing monsoon rains have halted reconstruction efforts.

Bir Bahadur B.K., the ward chairman of Triveni Municipality-2, mentioned that the ward office had arranged tarpaulins for those whose houses were destroyed by the rainfall, providing them with temporary shelter to ensure their safety.
