By Our Correspondent,Sarlahi, June 29: Most parts of Sarlahi district were submerged because of the heavy monsoon rains on  Friday. Floods wreaked havoc in dozens of settlements.

Locals have reported that the transportation system has been affected as most of the roads are flooded in a lack of proper drainage systems.

The District Traffic Police Office, Nawalpur, said that vehicular movement was partially obstructed due to inundation in various sections of the East-West Highway.

Traffic Police Inspector, Madan Thapa informed that vehicles were allowed to pass alternately due to flood in the Horticulture Centre, Nawalpur, and the market area of Harion.

Locals said that small vehicles, including motorcycles, are facing difficulties as most of the inner roads of the district are flooded. Heavy rainfall caused floods in the Bagmati, Banke, Kalinjor, Lakhandehi and Phuljor rivers in the district.

According to Ward Chairman Buddha Dev Chaudhary of Lalbandi Municipality-3, all vehicles including motorcycles were prohibited from crossing the Phuljor River Bridge that connects Lalbandi Municipality-3, Jabdi, and Ishwarpur Municipality-8, Rampur.

He also said that the road near the bridge in Jabdi was washed away, leading to the closure of the bridge.
