Parliamentary committee calls ministers to discuss on cannabis cultivation

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 6: Parliamentary Committee of Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources of the House of Representatives has called eight ministries including the ministry of Home Affairs to hold a discussion on the cultivation of cannabis included in the budget of 2081/82 BS. 

 Dr. Aarju Rana will chair the meeting that will take place at 11 am on Friday. 

The committee will hold a discussion on point number 49 of the budget speech 2081/82 BS, which states that “law will be enacted for the cultivation of cannabis for medical purposes”. 

According to Under Secretary of Parliamentary Secretariat Shivadatta Baral, the discussion will be held to create an environment for the formation of laws to legalize the cultivation, processing, and sale of cannabis for medical purpose.  

In the discussion, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Jwala Kumari Sah, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha along with their respective secretaries will participate in the meeting. 

Baral informed that the secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the Ministry of Health and Population, and other stakeholders will take part in the meeting.
