Police, Gandaki emerge victorious

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 6: Nepal Police Club and Gandaki Province have continued their unbeaten run at the 8th PM Cup: NVA Volleyball League while Tribhuwan Army Club and Tip Top Help Nepal faced their first loss as the four undefeated teams of the tournament faced each other at Day 5 on Wednesday.

Nepal Police defeated Army with a commanding 3-1 set lead. Army was able to win the first set against Police with a score of 27-25; however, Police bounced back in three other sets.

Police won by 26-24, 25-21 and 25-18 in the second, third and fourth sets respectively to register the team’s fifth consecutive win. 

On the other hand, the match between Tip Top Help Nepal and Gandaki ended in a five-set thriller with later winning the match by 3-2. Gandaki won the first set by 27-25 but lost two successive sets to Tip Top with a score of 21-25, 28-30. Gandaki, however, bounced back to level the tally by taking the fourth set by 25-21 and won the decider with a score of 15-9.

Until Day 4, Nepal Police, Army, Tip Top and Gandaki were unbeaten in four matches each. They had not faced each other in a tournament between eight teams; it was only on Wednesday that the four teams played against each other.

Meanwhile, as the four unbeaten teams were facing each other on Wednesday, four other winless teams were fighting for their first win in the league; Sudurpashchim won their first match of the tournament by defeating Koshi. 

Koshi won the first set (25-19) against Sudurpashchim but lost the other three (25-21, 25-22 and 25-16). 

On the other hand, Chandragiri and Karnali have failed to register a single win until Day 5 in the women’s category. On Wednesday, Karnali lost to Nepal Police and Chandragiri New Diamond lost to Army. It was the fourth consecutive win for Police while the second for Army.

While Nepal Police defeated Karnali after securing three consecutive sets 25-7, 25-6, 25-8 in a dominant fashion, the play between Army and Chandragiri went to the last set.

Chandragiri won the first and second sets by 27-25 and 25-20 and Army won the third and fourth by 25-17 and 25-23. Winning the final set by 15-12, Army left the court victorious.
