By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 15: A two-day creative exhibition and workshop related to mathematics has begun in the capital.
On the occasion of International Mathematics Day (IDM), Imperial World School, Budhanilkantha, organised an exhibition related to mathematics to teach mathematics, which is considered a difficult subject to study and teach, in an entertaining environment through art and creation.
The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is observed on 14 March every year. Inaugurated by Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Hanan Goder-Goldberger on Thursday, the exhibition features paintings and stalls made from different colours and naturally available materials including paper, wood, stone, clay, grains and flowers.
Kumar Karki, Founder and Director of the school, said that the school has built a “mathematics park” using sun and waterproof materials to teach mathematics through practical, simple and interesting activities, pictures and puzzles.
Binod Panta, Associate Professor at Kathmandu University, said that mathematics is always used in everyday life. Mathematics is not a difficult subject if there is a desire to learn.
Discussions about mathematics, artistic learning and teaching practices are necessary to change the concept that mathematics is difficult, he said.
Students and teachers of private and community schools in Budhanilkantha Municipality have been invited to observe the exhibition.
On the second day of the exhibition, a mathematics workshop will be organised in the participation of mathematics experts and mathematics teachers, parents and students, said Junita Karki, Principal of Imperial World School. Karki said that the main attraction of the exhibition is the creative materials prepared by the students of classes 1 to 10 studying in the school.
