Helicopter lifts salt to Humla

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Mar. 14: Salt, provided under a grant by the Salt Trading Corporation (STC), is being transported to Humla. Mountain Air’s helicopter has been transporting the salt to Humla for the past nine days. 

Ramchandra Bhusal, a representative of Mountain Air, said that the STC had entrusted the airlines with the transportation of iodised salt of this year's fixed quota.

The salt transported by trucks from Surkhet to Khadikhet of Sarkegad Rural Municipality-6 is being transported to Simkot by helicopter.

 Bhusal informed that the airline had been transporting the salt for the past nine days by making 30 flights a day. He said, “Till date 404 quintals of salt have been transported and the remaining 280 quintals of salt will be transported within two days.”

Raj Bahadur Lama, head of the STC Humla, said that 1,684 quintals of salt were being transported this year. He said that the transportation of salt used to be delayed in the past. However, salt transportation was taking place in time this year as the airfare was given to the helicopter in time. 

A helicopter can carry seven quintals of salt in a single flight and it takes 14 minutes to reach Simkot Airport from Khadikhet. 

The salt provided in grant will be distributed in Tajakot, Adanchuli, Sarkegad and Chankheli rural municipalities. The slat is provided to the people at the rate of Rs. 9 per kg.
