By Our Correspondent, Humla, Feb. 21: North Humla has experienced severe cold following heavy snowfall since Monday night.
It was the heaviest snowfall of the season. Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Pokhrel said, "Over a foot of snow has accumulated on the ground, despite clear skies on Monday. The sudden snowfall during the night transformed the region into a winter wonderland. The temperature plummeted to minus 14 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, affecting life."
Heavy snowfall in North Humla has left locals immobilised, impeding the movement of both humans and animals.
Frozen lakes and streams have disrupted the flow of water. Residents are actively engaged in clearing snow from rooftops.
The district is buried under snow, with northern Namkha Rural Municipality receiving an impressive two feet of snow while the southern part of Humla is experiencing rainfall.
Snowfall has disrupted air services, with Simkot airport covered in thick fog and snow, resulting in the cancellation of scheduled flights for Sita, Tara, and Summit Air departing from Nepalgunj on Tuesday, causing inconvenience for passengers.
However, the farmers are happy for the delayed but valuable snowfall, which would save their crops from the impact of drought.
The heavy snowfall is viewed as a boon for agriculture in the region, facilitating the planting and harvesting of both early and late-seasonal crops.
