Inspired by artists like Jeremy Zucker, Chloe Moriondo, Sajjan Raj Vaidya, Oasis Thapa and VEK, Yabesh Thapa is a singer-songwriter taking the Nepali music industry by storm with a single at a time. Born on August 31, 2002, the singer with his articulate lyrics and enticing melodies engrosses over three hundred eighty-six thousand subscribers on his official YouTube handle.
A follower of the Christian doctrine, the singer was exposed to music early in his life while attending his weekly church services. Highly influenced by his seniors, Yabesh was in grade seven when he initially started writing his original music. Even in the present day, he credits his consistent dedication to writing to be the reason for his success.
The songster debuted in the scene at the age of 16 with his first collaboration ‘Prayas’ (2018) featuring Pratik Shakya. But things started to align for him only a year later after the publication of his tender love ballad ‘Laakhau Hajarau’. Yabesh had also merged with his managing record label Class-X Presentation by this time and the creative amalgamation was all set to bedazzle the industry and more. The singer’s discography consists of more than a dozen singles, multiple collaborations and the waterfall release of his debut album “Gham Chaaya” publishing three tracks already.
Exhibiting abundant proficiency and eloquence through his compositions and poetry, Yabesh just at 21 finding this level of success continues to practice humility as a person and explore his curiosity in music as a creative. Even the title for his album “Ghaamchhaya” connotes the uncertainty of life; sun and shade representing the ups and downs the only constant and mutual feelings. Furthermore, the album logo also showcases the (2059 - ) sign, illustrating the singer’s birth year, his inevitable resolution from the physical realm and his desire to leave behind his artistic legacy.
And the singer is back with his fourth single ‘Kasari’ from his debut album, written and produced by Yabesh, the audio is mixed and mastered by Kobid Bazra (Bajra Creation Records) featuring Nishad Shrestha on cello and Supriya Shrestha on viola. In just a span of two days the song has already escalated the charts with its present ranking at #11 on Trending for music as per the Nepal moderated YouTube broadcast.
The video is directed and edited by Thomas GM, with Nexal Thapa on cinematography, Dawa Bee as the assistant director, Biten Shrestha on production management; featuring the cast of Nivi Shrestha, Nurbu Gyaljen, Namgyal Dolma, Ram Kumar Limbu and Jog Kumari Limbu.
The tune commences with acoustic guitars emulating a madal-based rhythmic pattern and accompanying piano lines enhancing the intro. The string section and a short vocalize line joins in almost immediately creating an instance of dynamic swell to resolve right with the entry of verse. The verse is soft and highlights the expressive lyrical melodies layered by flowy cello sustains and popish guitar strumming.
The pre-chorus vocal articulation feels like the singer is intentionally about to break his voice with his soft and vulnerable delivery ornamented by loads of vibratos. The chorus features complementing vocal harmonies and very well-executed lyrics, and post-chorus the song reaches its dynamic peak with more room for the arrangement. The entire structure repeats once more and the outro ensues and concludes the song with a final drop of a short chorus stanza.
