Nepali student in Canada counts third fastest-growing student population in 2023

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 16: Nepali students counted Canada’s third fastest-growing student population in 2023.  According to a report released by the ApplyBoard team, Nepali students were Canada’s third fastest-growing student population in 2023. 

Based on full-year data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), in January, ApplyBoard shared that Nepali students are increasingly studying computing, IT, health and sciences in Canada. 

In 2023, the number of international students who held a valid visa in Canada increased by 29 per cent over the previous year. Over 1 million international students held a valid Canada student visa in 2023. 

The total number of Nepali students grew by 166 per cent compared to 2022, making it Canada’s third fastest-growing student population.

In 2023, there were 20,465 Nepali study permit holders in Canada up from 7680 in 2022. Study-permits issued to Nepali students from 2022-2023 increased by 50 per cent health and general science programs and 38 per cent for computing and IT programs.

On the Apply Board platform, Nepali nationals search for technology, software engineering, computer programming and IT more frequently than any other student population, showing a growing interest in these fields.
