Irrigation facility from Sikta covers 50 per cent land

Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Feb 6: Sikta Irrigation Project- a national pride project- is providing irrigating facilities to 50 per cent agriculture land of Banke district.

The Project started providing irrigation facility in 22 thousand hectare land. It has target of irrigation facility to 42 thousand 766 hactares agricultural land. 

The project stated that an irrigation facility is spread over 22 thousand hectare agricultural land.

According to Project Director, Devaraj Niraula, the project has been expediting its work targeting finish the project by fiscal year (FY) 2089/90 B.S. The project was started since 2062/63.

The expenditure for the construction of the main dam of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality is recorded Rs 2.50 billion so far.

Niraula informed that 37 km out of 53 km construction is completed in eastern canal and irrigation facility is begun.

He informed that 37 km long construction is completed in the eastern canal out of the 53 km. This canal is providing irrigation on 4200 hectares area land. It is targeted to provide irrigation to 9 thousand hectares land.  

The area of 18 thousand hectare land is getting irrigated from this canal. 

Niraula informed that wheat farm got irrigated from this canal.

He said that farmers could now get irrigation facility even if there is no monsoon however added that challenges are being faced for the allocation of compensation. This kind of problem are discussed in department and compensation are demanded in Ministry of Finance. 

The project is expecting to get completed with estimated of Rs 32 billion. It is expecting to provide irrigation facility to 17 thousand households with 4 lakhs population.
