Nepal’s first Therapeutic Knitting, Crochet Programme commences

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 23: The Dhairya Cancer Foundation‘s project ‘Thread of Hope’ has introduced Nepal's first-ever Therapeutic Knitting and Crochet Program. 

In the inaugural program of Nepal's first-ever Therapeutic Knitting and Crochet, hosted at Trichandra Multiple Campus, Terisa Tamang, Founder and President of the Dhairya Cancer Foundation, said that it is a new approach of combining the meditative art of crafting to deal with mental health issues. This has been initiated for the first time in Nepal. 

According to Tamang, despite being the first of its kind in Nepal, the program garnered positive feedback from participants who described the experience as unique, focusing on enhanced concentration, happiness, and a profound sense of accomplishment.

Tamang said, that “Thread of Hope’ aims to address mental health challenges through the therapeutic Knitting and Crochet Program. It engages people with mental health in some activities which in long term helps in sustainable well-being.” 

Tamang said that this initiative aligns with findings from Cardiff University, affirming the psychological and social benefits of knitting. 

According to the survey, encompassing 3,545 global knitters, revealed improved cognitive functioning, increased social engagement, and enhanced communication skills among those who practiced knitting for relaxation, stress relief, and creativity.
