Kathmandu, Jan 11: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has urged the lawmakers for early conclusion of discussion on various bills.
She made aware the lawmakers on need of intensifying debate on important bills.
During a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Thursday, Minister Sharma viewed the parliamentary committee should finalize bills before the parliament resumes. The parliament is blamed of failure to pass bills, she said, adding that lawmakers could not stay indecisive.
She further argued various activities were backlogged due not having new acts.
Minister Sharma expressed such views after the committee members failed to forge consensus on the bill designed to amend 'Constitutional Council Act, 2066'. Sharma however committed to ministry facilitation for concluding the bill.
"We conduct parliament but are not able to pass bills. So, it is time for parliamentary committees to conclude important bills before resumption of parliament," Minister Sharma underscored.
According to her, the present amendment would resolve problems created by the old law.
On the occasion, Chairman of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Ramhari Khatiwada, called the members for rigorous debate on the bill by rising above party interests. "Law can not be made an issue of ego between ruling and opposition. Biased thoughts and debate would not result positively," he reminded.
Committee member Raghu Ji Pant however expressed concern over amendment of the Act (section 10). "It is not good to have the system that fortifies prime minister while enfeebling judiciary, parliament and opposition," he argued.(RSS)
