By Arjun Kafle,Syangja, Jan. 3: Locals of Arjun Chaupari Rural Municipality in the district are delighted with the establishment of an eye treatment centre near their homes.
The eye treatment centre has been set up at the office building of the rural municipality in collaboration with the Netrajyoti Association, Himalaya Eye Hospital and the rural municipality.
Nandrakala Devkota, a 76-year-old local, said the Rural Municipality has done a good job by opening the eye treatment centre.
She said that because of her poor financial condition, she was unable to go to the cities for cataract treatment. “Now, the treatment centre has been set up in the village,” she said. It is the first eye treatment centre in Syangja district and the third in Gandaki Province after Jaimani and Bholchhar eye centres.
The Eye Care Foundation has provided equipment worth Rs. 1 million to establish the eye centre.
Prakash Tiwari, chairman of Arjun Chaupari Rural Municipality, said that the eye centre was inaugurated in the municipality building so that the people could easily get the treatment service.
He said that one could get treatment facilities on all office days free of cost.
He said that the municipality would provide free surgery services to the residents of the rural municipality who could not afford to pay for treatment.
Dr. Ilia Shrestha, Director of the Himalayan Eye Hospital, said that the eye treatment centre has been established in the initiative of the rural municipality.
It is said that 80 per cent of eye patients could receive treatment services from the centre.
The Himalaya Eye Hospital has managed technicians while the rural municipality has arranged other services.
