Education and sports two sides of a coin: President Paudel

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 2: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that education and sports are two sides of a coin.  

Addressing the inauguration programme of the 3rd Running Shield Competition organized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Tuesday, President Paudel, said that education imparted inside the classroom broadens intellect and vision, while, education on the ground, sports, makes the mind, body and spirit proactive and makes one a disciplined person. 

President Paudel said, “The extracurricular activities and sports support wholesome learning. It is an open field to sharpen inborn talent, knowledge, good attitude, social values and readiness.” 


He said, “Students can learn confidence, positivity and underlying knowledge through the medium of sports. I want to draw the attention of all respective organizations to make necessary efforts for the development of sports in all three levels of government.” 

According to him, education imparted within the boundaries of books and schools is not enough to make students complete, therefore, the inclusion of the families, societies and environment, being open to teaching and learning with any mediums and within is a must. 

Saying that the participation of students in sports is the base for building a prosperous, successful society, President Paudel said that if the students are persistent and progressive in education, then they will develop new mindsets and innovation abilities. 

President Paudel holds a perception that extracurricular activities like sports enable students for the future, thereby, making the nation progressive. 

He said, “Sports make the body healthy and ready to work. It is a medium for capacity, vitality and power and keeps the body healthy and active, which is a tool for a successful future.” 


President Paudel said that sports enrich social life and provide cultural experiences. Those who play sports can move forward collectively by helping each other and this leads to an understanding of society. 

He said, “The sports that are organized in public places like schools, and colleges, develop collectiveness, togetherness, encourage participation and enthusiasm, it is a source for making psychosocial spectrum of the education success, therefore, there is a crucial relationship between education and sports. I think that such competition should be conducted in schools as a part of the teaching and learning process.”
