Birat Nepal Bhasa Language Literature Conference held

By A Staff Reporter,Bhaktapur, Oct. 29: The 62nd Birat Nepal Bhasa Language Literature Conference was organised in Bikumchhen, Bhaktapur on Thursday.

Held under the chairmanship of Mahendra Gopal Karmacharya, head of the Birat Nepal Bhasa Literature Guthi that organised the event, the Conference had Senior Writer Dr. Yogendra Pradhan as the chief guest.

On the occasion, Malla K Sundar, a leader of the Nepal Bhasa movement, was awarded the Birat Purna Vaidya Memorial Prize. The prize carries a purse of Rs. 100,000.

Similarly, Rakesh Man Maskey and Anil Sthapit were awarded the Birat Suratna Prize. Both are graduates of Nepal Bhasa. Maskey completed his Masters degree in the language in 2021 and Sthapit completed his in 2022.

Meanwhile, Nikesh Basi Shrestha was honoured with the Nepal Bhasa medal for obtaining high marks in the Nepal Bhasa subject in his Secondary Education Examination (SEE).

Likewise, winners of the literary competition the Guthi organised prior to the conference were also feted. Of the total 28 writers that participated in the competition, Jitendra Shrestha 'Rasik', Dil Kumari Dongol and Gyanendra Ratna Bajracharya stood first, second and third in the poem category while Badru Bedana, Renu Shrestha and Laxmi Chandra Bajracharya stood first, second and third in the story category.

The 31st edition of the Birat Guthi's mouthpiece 'Hyaunbala' was also launched at the event where the likes of Jujukaji Ranjit, Satya Narayan Manandhar and Pavitra Kasa, along with new talent Rafela Maharjan as well as the Indreni Sanskritik Samaj provided musical entertainment.
