By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 12: The ‘Something Like a Film Festival’ (SLFF) by Documentary Open School (Docskool) is all set to take place in Kathmandu.
The event will be held at Yalamaya Kendra in Patan from October 13 to 15.
This edition of SLFF will feature 47 films spanning fiction, documentary and Queer genres.
Previously hosted in Dhangadhi and Biratnagar, the Kathmandu edition marks the festival's third edition.
Notably, SLFF encourages independent groups to organise and spread the event throughout Nepal and South Asia.
Another edition of the festival is slated to take place in Dhaka later this year.
A significant highlight of the festival is that most of the films showcased are helmed by women and novice directors, informed the Docskool.
Considering the limited representation of women in Nepal's film industry, this serves as a welcome boost to encourage female filmmakers.
Among the films, the festival will present 26 diverse-genre documentaries, ranging from short 4-minute pieces to feature-length productions.
On October 13, attendees have the chance to engage in discussions on Feminist Oral History and participate in a workshop exploring Queer expressions in cinema.
SLFF will pay tribute to the influential German filmmaker, Harun Farocki, recognised for pioneering the film essay format.
The festival will begin with films like ‘Kathmandu Monsoon’ by Ngima Gelu Sherpa, ‘Yet Another Winter’ by Kiran Shrestha, and ‘Drifting Clouds’ by Deepa Shrestha.
Concluding the festival, viewers can enjoy ‘Amar Colony’ by Siddhartha Chauhan, which secured the Jury Prize at Talinn Black Nights 2023, and the Queer film ‘Chasing Chasing Amy’ by Sav Rodgers, previously screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022.
