By Our Correspondent,Urlabari, Jan. 3: Elephants have started causing trouble in Thapadangi of Urlabari-4 and nearby villages in Morang Municipality.

From midnight on Tuesday until 4 am on Wednesday, elephants damaged six houses in Thapadangi and nearby areas, said Kalyan Kumar Rai, the Ward Chairperson of Urlabari-4.

According to Rai, the elephants destroyed the kitchen of Dilliram Khatri's house. Similarly, they broke the tin fence of Khadga Prasad Khatri's house and ate rice stored in the granary.

In addition, they broke the walls of Nawaraj Bhattarai and Pitambar Paudel’s houses and ate the stored grains. The veranda of Laxmi Marik's house was also damaged, but since there was nothing inside, only structural damage occurred, Rai added.

Khadga Prasad Khatri said that two elephants coming from the western part caused trouble throughout the night. Despite efforts by locals, police and municipal authorities to drive the elephants back into the jungle, they often return to the village in search of food after nightfall, Rai added.

In Morang, two women from Sundarharaincha were killed in separate elephant attacks on December 22 and December 30.
