Constitution Day to be observed for three days

Kathmandu, Sept 4 : The government of Nepal has decided to mark Constitution Day for three days by organising various programmes.

Nepal marks the Constitution Day on Ashwin 3 (September 20) every year to commemorate the promulgation of the Constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly on September 20, 2015.  

A meeting of the Constitution Day Main Organising Committee held in the Office of the Prime Minister at Singha Durbar on Sunday decided to celebrate the Constitution Day for three days.

The meeting decided to mark Constitution Day on September 19, 20 and 21 with discussion programmes, public awareness programmes, publication of Constitution Day special edition, interaction and illumination ceremonies.  A special programme will be held at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel on September 20. Awareness programmes and illumination ceremonies will also be observed in Nepali Embassies, diplomatic missions and consulates on September 21. 

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, addressing the meeting, said, “The Constitution Day is not only the formal programme of government but a celebration of people.”

The Constitution of Nepal was endorsed by more than two-thirds majority in the 601-member Constituent Assembly on September 16, 2015 and was promulgated four days later on September 20.
