Patan (Lalitpur), Aug 27: Nepal Students Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, has continued its relay hunger strike protesting fee hike by the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk, Tribhuvan University.

NSU, Pulchowk President Shulav Chaulagain has been on a relay hunger strike for the past five days at the Pulchowk Campus in protest.

Meanwhile, NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC today reached and took stock of health condition of Chaulagain and his demand. On the occasion, leader KC said the NSU central committee should seriously pay its attention to the issue raised by the protesting party.

In protest, various student unions including Free Students Union, NSU, All Nepal National Free Students Union and All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) on 23 August issued a statement. They said they came to know about the fee hike by the Campus on July 27 through news media and social media.

The Campus increased fees from Rs 318,000 to Rs 775,420 per annum effectively from the current fiscal year, 2023/24. "The unscientific and unnatural fee hike has shattered the dreams of a large section of people wanting to pursue engineering," said Ramesh KC, the outgoing NSU President, Pulchowk Campus Unit. (RSS)
