By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 4: A book titled ‘Kingdom Lost’ by Sagar SJB Rana was launched at a programme organised in Kathmandu on Thursday. Member of the House of Representatives Raghuji Pant, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Damannath Dhungana, historian and author John Whelpton and the writer himself jointly launched the book.
Sagar SJB Rana, also a member of the Nepali Congress, is the president of the Nepal Art Council. He became a part of the Nepali Congress in the 1970s after BP Koirala returned home propounding the policy of national reconciliation. The author, during the launch, mentioned that he had interviewed and discussed various aspects of the Nepali political movement with numerous individuals for his new book. ‘Kingdom Lost’ serves as a sequel to his debut work, ‘Singha Durbar’.
The book has sections like ‘The Rana-Congress Coalition’, ‘Monarchy Return in a New Avatar’, ‘The General Elections and 18 Months of Freedom to King Gyanedra’s Fatal Gamble’, and ‘Irreversible March to a Republic’.
At the event, Dhungana praised the author for meticulously documenting the roles and responsibilities of the Rana rulers up to former King Gyanendra Shah, reflecting an in-depth research and observation process.
