Aryal’s ‘History of Nepali Sports’ released

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 12: ‘History of Nepali Sports,’ a book penned by sports Journalist Nabin Aryal, hit the bookstore on Tuesday.  Aryal in collaboration with Sharad Chandra Shah Memorial Foundation brought the book, which was released amid a programme held in Kathmandu. 

Minister of Youth and Sports Dig Bahadur Limbu, President of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Chairperson of Sharad Chandra Shah Memorial Foundation Renu Shah, Chairman of publisher Creative Books TS Thakuri, book critic and professor P Kharel and author Aryal jointly released the book.

Aryal, who has been active in sports journalism for 23 years, has written his first book as an attempt to explore the history of Nepali sports. The extensively researched book documents sports history from Nepal's first international participation until now.

The story of the Nepali sports sector's struggle to win medals and the sports journey is described in the book, said Aryal.

The book narrates the role and contribution played by the then leadership to bolster domestic sports amid limited resources. To make the book factual and reliable historical photos, letters and news published about Nepali sports in national and international media are documented in the book. 

Speaking at the program, Minister of Youth and Sports Limbu said that the book will be a guide for players, coaches and others involved in the sports. 

Professor Kharel said that the book is of excellent quality. “I have been doing sports journalism since the 30s. I am still writing. This book also mentions new topics that I did not know about.”

President of NOC Shrestha called the publication of the book a historical moment and said that it will help the new generation to understand the history of sports. “This is a historic work in itself and a good start. It also helps in the development of Nepali sports," he said.

Aryal, the author of the book, said that he has researched and covered historical as well as new topics in the book. He believed that it would help the younger generation understand Nepali sports history.
