Kathmandu, May 11: The funeral rites of Mukesh Kayastha have been performed with state honours. Kayastha, 32, from Banepa, was injured during the second people's movement in 2063BS and got bed-ridden since then.
Kayastha died in course of treatment on Wednesday evening. His last rites were performed as per Newari tradition at Ugratirtheshwor Ghat in the district on Thursday. His body was kept at office of Banepa Municipality for tribute from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Aman Lal Modi; Minister for Health, Mohan Bahadur Basnet; NC General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma; lawmakers Gokul Banskota and Surya Man Dong, Bagmati Province Assembly members Kanchan Chandra Bade and Laxman Lamsal, Home Ministry Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, district levels leaders and cadres attended the funeral.
On the occasion, Minister Modi expressed commitment that government would declare Mukesh a martyr.
Mukesh Kayastha was injured seriously in a police firing during the second people's movement- on Chaitra 27, 2062- at Tindobato, Banepa. He was born on Bhadra 9, 2048. Mukesh remained unconscious for a month after injury.
He was admitted at Scheer Memorial Hospital, Banepa after health problems last Monday.
All political parties in the district expressed grief and issued condolence statement over Kayastha's demise. Similarly, in his demise, Banepa Municipality closed down all of its services on Thursday. (RSS)
