Nepalgunj, May 9 : The teachers of schools and madrasas in Narainapur Rural Municipality, a remote and backward area in Banke district, have been collecting salary without attending schools for months.
During the inspection of schools and madrasas conducted by a team of Krishna Chandra Maurya, coordinator of Education Monitoring and Investigation Committee of the rural municipality, it was found that there were irregularities in most of the schools and teachers were receiving salary without showing up for months.
Maurya informed that Jayamati Baijali, teacher of Sunnat Saidul Ulum, and Ramji Sahu, lunch manager of madrasa in Jayarampur of Narainapur-4, had not come to madrasa even for a single day in the month of Baisakh.
In this regard, principal of madrasa Ebrahim Khan said that even after repeatedly contacting them, many teachers had failed to show up at madrasa. He said," We have already sent application to the rural municipality in an effort to make them aware about the situation.
But the teachers continue to receive their salary."
Meanwhile, the principal of madrasa Gausul Wara Jamiya in Ward No. 5 of Jamunaha was nowhere to be found as the inspection team arrived there. Even the teachers did not coordinate and refused to show attendance register to the team.
But, after the forceful request, the team found that none of the teachers had taken attendance in the month of Baisakh, as shown by the register.
Similar problem is seen in Nepal National Basic School in Ward No. 5 of Jamunaha. Maurya said that during the monitoring, the school principal was found absent along with the rest of the teachers.
He said that it was the first time that they were monitoring the school and that from now on, they would be monitoring the schools regularly for quality education.
Meanwhile, rural municipality chairman Ishtiyak Ahmed Shah said the municipality would act tough against the negligent teachers.
