10: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has
viewed that the government media agencies should be competitive and creative
and they should be operated as per the changed situation.
Minister Sharma expressed her views
while furnishing replies to queries raised during the discussion over the 'proposal
to consider on Public Broadcasting Service Bill 2078'. The proposal was tabled at
the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today.
"I agree that the
government media houses should be made competitive with the private media in regard to content. We will continue discussing on content, but, first, at the
policy level, let's form the government media houses able to compete. Please unravel weaknesses
in course of the section wise discussion," said Minister Sharma.
The CIT minister made it clear
that the Bill does not try to detach the operation of Nepal Television and
Radio Nepal from the state responsibility. She, however, said issues pertaining
to letting the government media houses run independently but also get
government investment were included in the Bill.
The HoR meeting today endorsed
the proposal tabled for consideration.
